The National Registry of Persons of Argentina (Renaper) announced the introduction of new passport and National Identity Document (DNI) formats starting February 1. The primary goal of this update is to enhance security to prevent fraud, speed up identity verification, and comprehensively modernize the country's documentation system.
The new documents will feature advanced security elements that can be verified without special equipment. The updated DNI will include a hologram, a transparent window, and laser engraving. The front side will display images of Argentine glaciers and the Andes mountain range, along with national symbols.
Regarding passports, the cover will remain dark blue, but the issuing authority will change. Once current material stocks are depleted, the text will change from 'Chief of Staff of Ministers' to 'Ministry of the Interior'. Passports for adults will remain valid for 10 years, and for minors, 5 years.
A significant change is the unification of the DNI for children under 14, making their documents identical to those of adults. For children under 5, the signature of a parent or guardian remains mandatory. Foreign residents will receive DNI cards with the same characteristics as Argentine citizens. All previously issued documents remain valid until their expiration date.
